Composer-virtuoso and frequent LACO collaborator, Marc-André Hamelin returns to LACO for his own highly virtuosic and introspective Piano Quintet. Joined by LACO principal strings, the program pairs this centerpiece with Shostakovich’s G minor Piano Quintet, a work of exuberance and brilliance. Colburn Conservatory student Yanyan Bao, who has already established herself as a name to watch among the next generation of rising stars, opens the program with Hamelin in Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel’s Three pieces for piano, four hands.
