Strauss, Ravel, Beethoven

Presented by Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra

A work that is especially close Music Director Jaime Martín’s heart and has long wanted to share with LACO audiences is Strauss’ monumental and mournful Metamorphosen. Scored in its original form for 23 individual solo strings, it is a work perfectly suited to LACO’s strengths and was last performed here in 1999.

The program continues with Ravel’s lighthearted Piano Concerto in G Major with Conrad Tao and culminates with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 in E-flat Major, “Eroica,” a symphony of heroic scale whose funeral march, breathless scherzo, and jubilant finale together trace the full arc of human struggle and renewal.
